If you want a class 1 commercial driver's license in British Columbia, you need to go through Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT). It's a requirement from the Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure and ICBC to make sure driving on BC's highways is safer.

Our MELT program at Elegant Driving Academy is more comprehensive than the national standards, making sure new class 1 applicants are well-prepared for the job. Employers appreciate drivers who go above industry norms, driving with confidence, safety, and professionalism.

To get your class 1 license, completing MELT is a must before the ICBC road test. Our program includes best practices from all over Canada, focusing on safe driving in BC's mountains and different weather conditions.

In British Columbia, if you're a new driver of big trucks, you have to finish a special driving program called Class 1 MELT. This program has some rules about how much time you spend driving on roads, practicing in yards, and learning in class. The people in charge, like ICBC, worked with trucking experts and government folks to make this program, so it covers everything you need to know. They want to make sure new drivers are well-prepared!

As a MELT student, your training starts in the classroom, which includes -

● Defensive driving
● Hours of service
● Road rules
● Fuel-efficient driving
● Hauling freight
● Backing.

Bring your theoretical knowledge to the yard for hands-on training in -

● Load security
● Chaining up
● Pre-trip inspections
● Coupling/sliding the trailer.

Your theory and practical knowledge come together in cab sessions, including extensive backing practice and longer mountain driving trips. If you're ready for a new career on the road, our patient instructors will provide the knowledge and confidence you need in the driver's seat!

● Complete all training sessions, 14 practical, and three written assessments within a year.
● Good understanding of English for written assessments.
● Finish two online courses successfully.
● If using an automatic truck, keep transmission training under 10 hours.
● Stick to the course schedule for pre-trip inspections, coupling/sliding, backing, and driving.
